On my last visit to Tortilla Flats, I left as a very satisfied customer. This visit I decided to get creative and I tried their Calamares Romana (Squid rings lightly breaded and flash fried till crisp). What amazing flavor! Tortilla Flats is a must in the Santa Cruz/Soquel/Capitola area.

I think Tortilla Flats is one of the few consistently excellent restaurants in Santa Cruz County. We always order the specials. The regular menu is good, but the specials are inspired. The owner and chef keeps it fresh, always adding new dishes. I am impressed that she is still so enthusiastic after so many years in the business. Occasionally, they have special weeks to introduce foods from a region of Mexico or our favorite, Moles. I have loved every one. The flavors are so complex. I am not a friend of the owner, just a very satisfied customer.

When I was going to Tortilla Flats I envisioned just some average taqueria. Once I entered the door at that instant I realized that it was anything but your average taqueria. The artwork on the walls was just stunning. I sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender (who was very interesting to talk to and was a genuine character) while I ate some tasty tapas, and drinking a margarita. By the end of the night, I would say that I was a very satisfied customer and will return soon.

I ate at tortilla flats the other day and just loved the tapas!! For those of you who don't know what tapas are, they are small dishes, like appetizers usually accompanied by wine. I finally found a restaurant in the Santa Cruz area with great tapas. Combine the good food with the amazing atmosphere, especially the artwork from all over the world, makes for a great experience.
